Press Release - May 5, 2011
i-Cue Design introduces a universal mobile web solution for "instant" buying —no app required
Making shopping easier on the mobile web is where the winning online vendors will find their gold, not in forcing shoppers to download and maintain apps.
SAN FRANCISCO, May 5, 2011 –Mobile commerce is in the air—people are buying
smartphones and browsing--but most people are still not willing to complete a purchase on their
mobile phones. i-Cue Design today asserted its goal to speed up customer adoption of mcommerce
with its patented transaction method that gives an "instant-add" shopping experience
on any device, any platform, any website—no app required.
i-Cue’s CTO, Jan Rippingale, appreciates the value of apps for vendor specific content. But
people can land on websites for the first time and want to make a purchase right then and there.
"Why would a business knowingly put up a barrier to making that purchase as fast and fun as
possible if they don’t have to? Is it good policy to give first-timers a slow, frustrating experience
that’s corrected only by downloading an app?"
As more and more companies migrate to the mobile web, she asks, "How many apps will a
person be willing to find, download, and maintain?"
Quoted in Fortune, in February 2011, Jesse Rohland and Greg Yardley of Pinch Media offer
the results of a statistical analysis of 30 million App Store downloads. Among their findings:
- Users tire of applications pretty quickly; fewer than 20% ever come back to run a free
app the day after download.
- Time spent on any app declines by almost 1/3 in the first month, stabilizing at just under
five minutes. ..."
A better mobile web raises all boats of m-commerce
i-Cue Design is betting that m-commerce will gain the trust and enthusiasm of shoppers when it
makes basic functions on the mobile web universally easier, faster, and more intuitive, with less
demand for shoppers to have to act like computer programmers just to use their phones.
i-Cue Design announces "instant" buying mobile web solution
The bottom line of online commerce is a completed transaction. And the best route to that is a
fast, convenient customer experience. While vendors may offer infinite varieties of content, basic
transaction operations are universal across websites: "add", "delete", "change quantity". And
right now they take way too long. Susan Pottish, CEO of i-Cue Design said, "This is what we’ve
fixed for the mobile web. The i-Cue "instant-add" method lets you click a checkbox to "add to
cart" and get the immediate confirmation that it’s "in cart". You can then keep adding, changing
pages, browsing, adding, or check with no intermediate or unrequested pages, ever."
Amazingly, with this innvoation, the "add", "delete", and "change quantity" tasks can now be virtually instantaneous on
any kind of computer, with any kind of connection to the internet, which means that shoppers
can get the speed and convenience they expect and want. This should prove to be a major contribution to
increasing uptake and enthusiasm for m-commerce.
About i-Cue Design’s Technology
i-Cue Design offers the only truly "instant-add" method for shopping online, and does more to increase the
potential speed and pleasure of browsing and shopping than any existing cart technology, especially on
the mobile web. Because it operates on the vendor’s web page the i-Cue "instant-add" benefits vendors
and shoppers alike: it works on any computer, any mobile device, any platform—in effect, any website
accessed with a browser, with no need for a downloadable app. Its primary value is in removing waiting
time, unrequested page changes and interruptions while shopping, before checking out.
